CRAIG STEVENSON TO LEAVE QUIKSILVER 23.02.13
ASB Magazine: According to a press release issued by Quiksilver, Global Brand President and Chief Operating Officer Craig Stevenson is leaving the company as of October 31, 2013. Stevenson has been Chief Operating Officer of Quiksilver Inc. since November 2011 and Global Brand President at Quiksilver Inc. since November 1, 2011. He served as President of Quiksilver Americas Inc. from January 2009 to November 2011 and served as its President of Quiksilver South Pacific from February 2008. Stevenson has served Quiksilver in various roles of increasing responsibility over the past sixteen years He served as Managing Director of Quiksilver Australasia commencing in 2002. Affectionately known as ‘Pin’, Stevenson has been involved in the surf industry for 28 years and joined Quiksilver in 1992 as one of the brands top sales representatives in Victoria. In addition to his various operational roles including responsibilities in sales, marketing and merchandising, Mr. Stevenson served as a Director of Quiksilver Australasia since 2001. ASB Magazine: Australian surfing celebrated its champions with Mark Richards and Stephanie Gilmore honoured at the Australian Surfing Awards in Sydney. The Awards marked a significant milestone in Surfing Australia’s history as it celebrated its 50th Anniversary following its formation in 1963 as the Australian Surfriders Association and over 500 guests celebrated at the gala event. It was an unprecedented gathering of Australian surfing legends from the past 50 years. Four-times World Champion Mark Richards was named Australia’s Most Influential Surfer 1963-2013, while five-times World Champion Stephanie Gilmore was inducted as the 35th member of the Australian Surfing Hall of Fame.

GILMORE THE 35TH MEMBER OF THE AUSTRALIAN SURFING HALL OF FAME 17.02.13
ASB Magazine: Five-times World Surfing Champion Stephanie Gilmore will be inducted as the 35th member of the Australian Surfing Hall of Fame in Sydney next Wednesday, 20th February. Her induction is part of the 2013 Australian Surfing Awards to be held at Doltone House at Jones Bay Wharf, Pyrmont. The Awards will also mark a significant milestone in Surfing Australia’s history as it celebrates its 50th Anniversary after its formation in 1963 as the Australian Surfriders Association. No competitor in the history of professional surfing has made such a dramatic debut as Gilmore did in 2007. Winning four of the eight events, the then 19-year-old won the World Title in her first year on Tour – a feat unprecedented in the sport.

ASB Magazine: Bells Beach local and Elite World Big Wave Surfer Jeff Rowley has struck a support sponsorship from Torquay based Surf shops STRAPPER SURF. Rowley is currently on the Island of Maui Hawaii, on call, for the “REDBULL, JAWS Big Wave Invitational”. Strapper Surfs Torquay Shop and Team Manager Dylan Shultz says “Strapper are way stoked to support Jeff’s efforts to be one of the World’s elite Waterman and Big Wave surfers and also support a local Surf Coast Victorian surfer having a crack on the World stage!”.
Rowley’s big wave skills have been honed along The Great Ocean Road and at Bells Beach and have earned him a 2013 Finalist Australian Surfing Awards ‘Waterman of the Year’ nomination, the winner to be decided later this month. Rowley is part of a small band of Elite surfers chasing the biggest waves around the Globe with a goal to paddle surf the biggest waves in the World.

COAST TO PLAY HOST TO GLOBAL SURF CITIES CONFERENCE 10.02.13
ASB Magazine: The Gold Coast will play host to the first Global Surf Cities Conference just prior to the Quiksilver and Roxy Pro on 27 February to 1 March 2013, bringing together surf city representatives from around the world and Australia. The two major aims of the Conference are to establish a platform for networking among surf cities so as to develop globally sustainable surf industries and to develop frameworks for international collaboration in surf industry education, employment and global career mobility.

VANS NEW U.S. OPEN OF SURFING TITLE SPONSOR 08.02.13
ASB Magazine: Vans Inc. (USA) a division of VFC has inked a three-year deal to be title sponsor of the annual U.S. Open of Surfing. New York-based IMG Worldwide produces the annual, multi-day event held in Huntington Beach. The main sponsorship of the event was left open when Nike Inc. declined to renew its contract as title sponsor late last year. Nike subsidiary Hurley International also declined to renew deals for secondary sponsorships of the event.
