ASB Magazine: Australia’s Surf Retailers Federation have announced the Finalists for the 2013 Australian Surf Industry Awards. The votes are all counted and the respective winners are set to be announced at the Gala Awards Presentation night to be held Tuesday 19th March at Sydney’s Novotel Manly Pacific. “This years Awards have been amazing, the number of nominations have gone through the roof and we have tripled the number of public votes” enthused Surf Retailers Federation Executive Officer, Mel Bawden. “With voting all wrapped up there’s not much left to do except countdown to the awards night, I can’t wait to find out who will be walking away with a trophy!”

QUIKSILVER FISCAL 2013 Q1 FINANCIAL RESULTS 07.03.13
ASB Magazine Quiksilver, Inc. today announced operating results for the fiscal 2013 first quarter ended January 31, 2013. Quiksilver’s Asia Pacific net revenues decreased 2% to US$73 million from $75 million, and were down 1% in constant currency. The company recently announced widespread cuts to its athlete and brand’s including the closure of its Quiksilver Women’s line. Newly appointed Quiksilver Inc CEO Andy Mooney says the company’s mantra is to ‘focus’ on its key strengths and brands. Across the board Quiksilver was down 7% to $179 million; Roxy decreased 7% to $115 million; and,
DC was up 1% to $109 million

ASB Magazine: Former Rip Curl Chairman, Qantas director and former Qantas chief executive James Strong has died, aged 68. He passed away in Sydney’s Mater hospital from lung complications following surgery on 3 March, his family said in a statement.

ASB Magazine: Seven-time surfing World Champion Layne Beachley has won many accolades in her stellar career but her recognition in the top three of Australia’s greatest sportswomen has topped them all. Beachley was given the honour at a recent ball in Canberra where Australia’s top 100 female athletes of all time were named. The list was decided by a public vote, input from athletes and research by advocacy group Sports for Women.

Sydney-based Misfit Aid won the ASB Surfing Spirit Award at the 28th Annual Australian Surfing Awards incorporating the Hall of Fame held at Doltone House, Jones Bay Wharf, and Pyrmont Point on February 21st, 2013. First convened in 1985 by Surfing Australia, these awards acknowledge the achievements of Australia’s finest surfers and surf organisations. “We are over the moon to be nominated and ultimately win the ASB Surfing Spirit Award,” said Misfit founder Chris Chong. “Thanks to ASB for your support and acknowledgment.
