CULT BRINGS IN THE BIG GUNS 08.04.05
Cult Industries recently turned up the heat with its Summer 2005 range
release. The company recalled its luxury motor sailer ‘Amnesia’ from its
enviable home near some of Indo’s spinning lefthanders and anchored the 110-
foot vessel off the Gold Coast. Cult owner, Doug Spong, flew some of the
company’s retail partners from the southern states in for a private preview
of its 2005 collection. When not on assignment on the Gold Coast, General
Manager, Steve Barrett says, “ We do the same thing. We fly our partners
into say, Bali, and bring them out to the Amnesia. If they surf, they can
go for a surf, come back, have some breakfast and we’ll talk and (later)
have some lunch. That afternoon we might get our models to show them our
new line of clothing, talk some more and then have a beautiful meal cooked
by our on-board chef, a couple of drinks and then go to bed.” The Amnesia
has an arsenal of 20 surfboards, two jet skis, two runabouts and full game
fishing equipment.

INSIGHT’S FAST FORWARD RANGE 08.04.05
Insight has created a new Fast Forward range this season as a way to bridge
the gap between the end of winter and the beginning of summer. The Fast
Forward range (both men’s and women’s) is designed to provide retailers
with an early release of key basic summer pieces to refresh stores and to
assist in the sell through of in-store winter. This objective of this
method of supply is to maintain retailers’ interest and allows Insight to
adjust to the shifts in the market and act on them early. According to
Insight’s Jamie Brewer: “It is basically a way to refresh the ‘between’
seasons and drive brand interest.” Despite rapid international growth,
Insight’s biggest demand remains in Australia and the main reason behind
this injection range is to accommodate the need for the May drops. “The
main focus of the range is to maintain customer interest and keep the
product constantly fresh,” said Brewer.

NEV SMASHES THE RECORD BOOKS 08.04.05
Forty seven of the world's top surfers took part in an ‘unofficial’ record-
breaking Guinness Book of Records attempt for the most number of surfers on
a surfboard riding a single wave. The board is 40 feet in length by 10
feet. It took one month and 300 litres of resin, half a tonne of foam and
220 metres of fibreglass to build it at a cost of $50,000. During the
attempt, the larger than life-size FCS H2 model fins were ripped out when
the board ‘dry docked’ on the sand, carrying its record breaking surfers
aboard. “I'm just beside myself," gasped Hyman. "All 47 surfers were in
hysterics as we were getting pushed along. It only lasted a short time but
this has been a mission of mine for a long time – and it's turned out
fantastically." Following this event, the board goes on a global ‘Tsunami
Run’, aiming to raise $200 million for tsunami victims.
