The Director of Public Prosecutions has withdrawn charges against Maroubra’s Koby Abberton, in relation to allegations of him being an accessory after the fact to murder.

The adoption of the policy brings Surfing Australia into line with a majority of national sporting organisations. President of Surfing Australia, “Bushy” Mitchell said “We had been working actively on the policy for some time to make sure that what was adopted by the Surfing Australia board was for the long term benefit of the sport and those competing here in Australia.”

The Australian Retailers Association (ARA) is in disarray after a recent national council meeting triggered a mass of resignations and the walk out of all South Australian officials. Only NSW and Victoria are now represented on the national council. Queensland quit some years ago, Western Australia disaffiliated in October and Tasmania does not have any national councillors because none of its members will nominate. According to SA’s presindent Robert Griff: “It just got to a point where our councillors believed that the local industry was best not served by the ARA."

Over 200 people went through Manly’s Dripping Wet surf shop on Friday 11 March to meet longboard surfing legends Robert August, Wingnut and short boarder Wayne Lynch. “It was a really awesome event,” says Dripping Wet co- owner, John Radcliffe.

From the 11 April the doors will open on Hype Surf Co. (formerly Beachlife Surf Centre), which has been trading in the Lennox – Ballina region for around 10 years. New owners Dean and Sally Stephen had been looking into buying the surf shop for a couple of years and formed a partnership with another person to enable the deal to go through. Dean has grown up in the local area and has been surfing since the age of nine and saw the former Beachlife stores as a good business opportunity. Initially the stores will be re-badged Hype Surf Co with a full fit out of the three stores to follow.
