Tony Mason’s feature film ‘Kookman’ has been selected out of thousands of independent films across the globe. Mason’s debut short film ‘131.9 cents per litre’ won numerous awards including ‘The Billabong Panasonic Surfshorts’ and now his first feature film ‘Kookman’ has been awarded top honors from the judging panel which including; Ted Hope (Producer of The savages, 21 grams, American Splendour, In the bedroom) Academy Award Winner, Geralyn Dreyfous (Producer of Born into Brothels) Paula Silver( Oscar selection commitee) and Award Winning Filmmaker Rick Stevenson (Producer of Privileged (1983) starring Hugh Grant, Promised land (1987) starring Meg Ryan and Kiefer Sutherland, Crooked Hearts starring Jennifer Jason-Leigh, Noah Wylie, Juliette Lewis and Peter Coyote).

The Award is chosen out of the very best from all the festivals across the world. Official Best Of Fest identifies the top 5% of independent films made around the world every year as defined by audiences, festival awards, reviewers and bloggers, and Official Best Of Fest international curators. Its mission is to identify the best of the best from all of the world’s film festivals and bring these deserving films to the public’s attention.

Kookman takes the journey of a wannabe pro surfer. With a satirical look at surf culture the film looks at the ways in which peer pressure can lead us astray from our true desires and identity. A documentary, a mocumentary, and a film that takes real life events and twists them into a bazaar tragic comedy. The film is proudly supported by local surf shop Island Surfboards and features cameo appearances by some of Victoria’s best up and coming surfers and local identities.

Tony Mason is a Melbournian who entered the realm of movie making with his short film ‘131.9 cents per litre’ which went on to win numerous awards including ‘The Billabong Panasonic Surfshorts’ It is now featured around the world in the television show ‘Little films Big Hearts’ and led to the creation of Kookman. Tony is the Writer, Director, Producer, Editor and Actor in his debut feature. The World Premier is held at A.C.M.I (Melbourne’s Federation Square) on the 12th February.
